NAFD Training Standards:

NAFD requires ALL personnel to complete Wildland, NIMS, and ICS training as a component of our regular training and certification programs. The following will provide guidelines, along with links for required training. In the event that the training is classroom only, a notation has been made. 


NIMS TRAINING

Required for ALL personnel regardless of rank, Paid or Volunteer:  NIMS 700


Required for ALL Officers (Engineers and above) Paid or Volunteer: NIMS 800


ICS TRAINING


Required for ALL personnel regardless of rank, Paid or Volunteer: ICS 100


Required for ALL Wildland/Exterior (Volunteers) and ALL Paid Staff and Volunteer Officers:


ICS 200


Required for ALL Officers (Engineers and above) Paid or Volunteer: ICS 300 


WILDLAND TRAINING


Required for ALL personnel regardless of rank, Paid or Volunteer:


L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service

S-110 Basic Wildland Fire Orientation 


Required for ALL Wildland/Exterior (Volunteers) and ALL Paid Staff and Volunteer Officers:


S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior

S-130 Firefighter Training & 8 Hours of Field Training


Required for ANY personnel responding to out of district incidents on engine(s) or water tenders

after second year of service with NAFD. This is predatory training for Crew Boss/Engine Boss.


S-131 Firefighter Type 1 (Classroom only)

ICS-200 (Online) and ICT5 Task Book


Required for ALL Officers (Engineers and above) Paid or Volunteer:


S-290 Intermediate Fire Behavior (Pre-Course online and class room)

S-230 Crew Boss, Single Resource (Blended online and class room)

S-231 Engine Boss, Single Resource (Blended online and class room)

S-200 Initial Attack Incident Commander (Pre-Course online and class room)


ALL personnel are required to complete an annual RT-130 Fireline Safety Refresher (Classroom)


NOTES:

1. Personnel interested in promotional opportunities are encouraged to attend the next higher level of training.

2. Once online portions of training are completed, make three (3) copies of certificate and distribute as follows:

       a. SAVE copy for future reference (Original)

       b. One copy to Training File in Battalion Chief’s Office

       c. One copy to Personnel File in Administration

3. PACK Tests to begin 1/1/18 

       a. Arduous Pack Test

                Involves fieldwork calling for above-average endurance and superior conditioning. All 

                firefighters are required to perform arduous duty. 3-mile hike, 45-pound pack, 45

                minutes.

                (NAFD Paid Staff; Paid on Call/Reserve Staff;  Volunteer Engine Bosses; Volunteers

                responding to wildfires as part of engine crew).

       b. Moderate Field Test

           Involves field work requiring complete control of physical faculties and may include

           considerable walking, standing, and lifting 25-50 lbs. Safety officers and fire behavior

           analysts are examples of moderate duty positions. 2-mile hike, 25-pound pack, 30 minutes.

           (NAFD personnel in other categories not covered in a or c). 

       c. Light Walk Test

           Involves mainly office-type work with occasional field activity. Examples include: staging area

           and helibase managers. 1-mile hike, No weight, 16 minutes. (NAFD Support Volunteers)

4. Position Task Books required to be completed for all positions and signed off by QUALIFIED personnel as authorized by Fire Chief.

5. See PMS 310-1 for clarification.

6. Any personnel requesting additional training or assignments MUST be approved by the Fire Chief.
